Darcy’s Work Experience at Spin Arts
This week we’ve hosted Darcy Phillips on her Year 10 work experience. Take a look at what she’s been up to at Spin Arts.
During my week at Spin Arts, I’ve had the opportunity to learn about what goes on behind the scenes when making dance shows and working in the arts industry. I started my experience by researching Arts Council England and better understanding their Let’s Create strategy and National Lottery Project Grants.
I’ve also spent time reading show proposals and discussing the strengths and weaknesses in them. This was interesting for me because there were so many different creative ideas, but I particularly liked the ones that involved young people because I could make an opinion based on what me and my friends would like to do.
After reading about so many different ideas, we watched a couple of live shows:
‘Everybody’s talking about Jamie’ at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford. This was a great chance to experience how project ideas are brought to life. I absolutely loved this show, especially the music which I thought was very catchy and very fun to listen to. It teaches people to be themselves and not to let people bring them down by their words and that it doesn’t matter if you are ‘different’. This musical was very funny and entertaining. I would 100% recommend it to anyone wanting to watch it and it is worth every penny. The acting is fabulous and the singing is amazing.
‘Horizon Community College End of Year Dance Show’ in Barnsley. This show involved young people about the same age as me, and were very impressive and talented. I particularly liked the bright pink sparkly costumes and the gymnastic movements.
Overall, I’ve really enjoyed my time working at Spin Arts and learning how to run a business. To say thank you, I taught Sarah how to put false eyelashes on, but it went horribly wrong. I stabbed her in the eye with tweezers and they fell off within 24hrs. Good job this work experience was not training to be a beautician.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my blog.
