Spin Arts seeks a dancer for Queenie and the Pooka

Spin Arts seeks a dancer for its touring children’s show, Queenie and the Pooka, co-choreographed by Carlos Pons Guerra and Keira Martin.
Queenie and the Pooka is a family friendly dance, music, puppetry, and storytelling show about a young Traveller girl called Queenie who longs to travel the world telling stories of the Travelling folk through song & dance.
We’d love to hear from dancers who live in the North of England, identify as female, and have the following skills and experience:
-Excellent contemporary dance techniques
-Some form of percussive dance skills (e.g. Irish, Tap, Kathak, Flamenco)
-Comfortable with theatrical/animated/character-based performance
-Can hold a tune – singing required (minimal)
-Can play an instrument (desirable)
-Feels confident engaging and entertaining children and families in un-conventional dance spaces (i.e. libraries, community centres, schools)
We are looking for a dancer with personality, physical theatricality, and able to pick up material at speed. We’re keen to hear from dancers who consider themselves to be under-represented in the workforce. Those with GRT heritage or lineage will be prioritised.

*Material/instruments can be adapted to suit the selected dancer.
Dates
Dancers must be available for the following dates:
Rehearsal period- 5th-11th June (Excluding Sat & Sun)
Performances: 12th June (Wigan) & 13th June (Stockport)
As a swing performer, you may be required for additional performances on:
14th June (Oldham), 15th June (Rochdale), 22nd June (Bradford), 26th-27th July (Bradford), as well other dates throughout 2024-2025. These will be negotiated based on availability.
Fees
Rehearsal Fees – (5 days) – £600 + 12.7% holiday/rest pay + 5% pension contributions.
Performance Fees – (Number of dates to be negotiated) £150 per day + 12.7% holiday/rest pay + 5% pension contributions.
*Pension contributions can only be claimed if personal contributions are being made.
Dancers must have the right to work in the UK and be based in the North of England.

-A clear, current video of your dancing, preferably demonstrating the desired skills we are looking for (theatrical, percussive footwork, singing/voice)
-Availability for rehearsal & performance dates
-A brief personal statement introducing yourself, your interest in the project, what percussive dance skills you have, whether you can play an instrument and what instrument it is, any information that helps demonstrate you have the skills and experience we’re looking for.
This can be sent in writing, video, or audio formats. Please keep personal statements to no more that 2 sides of A4 and videos/audio to no longer than 5 minutes.
